RMET Executive Team
The RMET Executive Team is the executive management arm of the Academy Trust, focusing on operations and the educational performance of the Academies. The Executive Team work directly with the Principals’ Group, staff in each Academy and the Local Governing Bodies to ensure that the required outcomes are achieved in accordance with the direction and vision of the Trust Board.
Chief Executive Officer
Carolyn graduated from Durham University in 1975 and subsequently achieved a PGCE and M.Ed. from The University of Leicester. She has taught in several Leicestershire and Leicester City schools and is a National Leader of Education. Until recently, Carolyn was Executive Principal at Rushey Mead Academy, which has achieved an Ofsted rating of ‘Outstanding’ three times. The academy also featured in Ofsted’s publication of ‘Twelve Outstanding Secondary Schools – Excelling against the Odds’ and has been awarded the International School award three times.
Carolyn shares her experience through a variety of roles: she is Vice Chair of the Teaching Schools Council, undertakes NLE targeted school improvement support and is a Senior Partner for Challenge Partners. Carolyn is also a member of the British Council Education Advisory Group and is a trustee of the Rushey Mead Foundation.
Deputy Chief Executive Officer
Russell graduated from the University of Bradford in 1982 with a BEng in Engineering and subsequently achieved a PGCE and M.Ed. from the University of Leeds. Russell taught for a number of years in urban secondary schools in West Yorkshire before moving into school improvement roles in Bury and Leicester. He subsequently became head of schools requiring support and intervention in Nottingham and then a national director of the Building Schools for the Future programme. Latterly he has been a Deputy Director at the Department for Education. Russell’s passion is for improving outcomes for learners in the inner city context.
Chief Financial Officer
Dave has a broad spectrum of financial experience across a range of services including profession office (Chartered Accountants), industry, local authority school education and an international charity.
He joined Rushey Mead Academy in October 2014 as the Accountant, for what was then a stand-alone LA secondary school. Prior to that appointment, he had 13 years working as a School Business Manager in two local authority schools, followed by ten years as Business Manager for a school and children’s home that was part of the RNIB Trust. In April 2016 he became Chief Financial Officer for Rushey Mead Educational Trust.
Secondary Partnership Lead
Born in Uganda, Rita arrived in the UK aged nine in 1972 as a refugee, part of the exodus of Ugandan Asians. She graduated from Birmingham University in 1984 and subsequently studied for the PGCE at The University of Leicester. She has taught English in Leicester schools and is the current Principal of Rushey Mead Academy. She is a Challenge Partner trained reviewer and led the Pupil Premium Challenge the Gap project in the East Midlands.
Rita regards herself as a lifelong learner and likes to keep up to date with latest research and thinking in the field of education, particularly with regard to the promotion of social mobility, equality and excellence.
Primary Partnership Lead
Sarah has been a Headteacher and Principal since 2008 and has a strong track record of supporting schools. Sarah is Primary Partnership Lead at Rushey Mead Educational Trust.
She was designated as an NLE in July 2016, in addition to being made an LLE in 2008. Her national support school was judged as outstanding in 2011 and has been a consistently high performing school for the last 5years.
Sarah’s particular areas of expertise are in assessment, provision of high quality Early Years’ Experience , promotion of high standards across the primary phase, behaviour management and developing a rich, inspirational and memorable curriculum.
Head of Governance
Cathy graduated from the University of Bristol with a BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering and spent the first 10 years of her career as a Chartered Engineer working in the engineering industry. She went on to work for Leicestershire Education Business Company and then in a regional role at STEMNET to increase opportunities for young people to engage with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities and role models.
Cathy is a National Leader of Governance and has been trained to do External Reviews of Governance. She has extensive school governance experience, is currently the Chair of Governors at two Leicester primary schools and was a Trustee of RMET for two years. She has also completed the NCTL’s Leadership Development Programme for Chairs of Governors.
Gulbanu is a Vice Principal of Rushey Mead Academy with responsibility for standards and progress. She is also an Associate Principal of the Rushey Mead Education Trust and is contracted with Ofsted as an Ofsted Inspector for secondary schools. Her particular areas of expertise are in whole school improvement, particularly through the effective use of performance information.
Strategic Director of Teaching School
Dave graduated from Leeds Carnegie University with a BA (Hons) in Sports Science and subsequently studied at Loughborough University for the PGCE. Dave came to Rushey Mead School in 2009 as Director of Specialism having been Director of Sport and Head of PE at Beauchamp College before this. Since then, Dave has had responsibility for timetabling before taking responsibility for developing and managing the successful School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme that operates out of the Leicester Teaching School Alliance based at Rushey Mead. In May 2017 Dave stepped up to the role of Strategic Director of Teaching School, with overall responsibility for its vision, strategic direction and operations.
